Exposing the flaws of our relationship with energy, Accelerate from Highly Sprung is a daring physical spectacle. Combining dark humour, bold movement, aerial performance and conveyor belt dance.
The planet is fighting back and it’s getting messy, with the ‘dirty’ energy that fuels us running out of steam. Accelerate explores how climate change is directly affecting the world’s fuel supply and energy production, as well as impacting the physical resilience of energy infrastructures and ultimately our mental health, as a result of fuel poverty.
Performers battle through daily life, juggling with the exhausting demands of the day to day, struggling to find the energy. With only so much fuel to get them through, reserves begin to run low. There’s no choice – they must look for alternatives.
Drawing on years of experience creating environmentally charged spectacle work, Highly Sprung continue to develop new ways to tell compelling stories, and inspire action around climate change.

Accelerate Tour 2024
In Autumn 2024 we are touring Accelerate to 6 Secondary Schools, completely free of charge, with up to 2 performance to 200 young people per school.

Youth Energy Summit
The Youth Energy Summit invites young people in Years 5-13 to explore the energy crisis, sparking ideas, discussions, action and hope.
With keynote speakers, interactive workshops and discussions from experts in the field of energy and innovation, it will provide a platform for young people to share ideas, knowledge, and sustainable solutions.
The summit will also feature an exclusive performance of Accelerate, followed by Highly Sprung workshops inspired by the show. These arts-based workshops will use physical theatre techniques to help student understand the understand renewable energy technologies, energy conservation strategies, and policy advocacy.
This collaborative event is produced by Highly Sprung in partnership with energy company EON, Coventry’s Strategic Energy Partnership, University of Warwick’s Institute of Engagement and Sustainability West Midlands.

Young Producers Programme
Alongside our tour of Accelerate and the Youth Energy Summit, Highly Sprung will take on board a collective of Young Producers in Years 9 and 10.
The group will receive professional development and training through workshops and mentor sessions with industry experts. They will then go on to produce and coordinate the Youth Energy Summit, working on a real-life event for their peers to attend.
