Anthology is a professional performance project co-created with young people, for young people. Reimagining the GCSE poetry anthology Worlds and Lives.
Following the success of the pilot project in May 2024, Anthology will be coming to North Warwickshire in March this year (2025), bringing to life a new collection of poetry being studied in schools, sharing an appreciation for diverse voices in literature.
Highly Sprung- known for using physical theatre to explore ideas and tell stories—is offering an exciting chance for young people (13-18) in North Warwickshire to transform how they see poetry through their project Anthology.
The project takes the GCSE poetry Anthology Worlds and Lives and takes it off the page, using movement, theatre, and creativity to explore the themes and ideas behind the words.
Highly Sprung will be hosting workshops at local libraries where young people can dive into poetry through fun, interactive theatre sessions.
Young people are also invited to join The Co-Creatives Group, stepping into the rehearsal room and working with professionals from Highly Sprung to help create a brand-new theatre piece inspired by the Anthology. They’ll get to be a director, writer, choreographer, or producer—and the final performance will be performed live on stage at the end of the project!
Here’s what last year’s participants said about the project:
“This project helped me get 100% on a test. I showed my English teacher and she nearly cried she was that proud.”
“It changed how I think about poetry. Instead of writing torturous essays, I started seeing poetry as a way to get things out of my mind and actually feel them.”
