Simile

Simile

Like, what does it mean to grow up in 2025? Like, how are you supposed to discover who you are when the world around you is constantly shifting? Wars raging, ice caps melting, social media likes… and oh you have to sit an exam about poetry in like, 12 HRS!?!…

As three friends sit down to revise the day before their poetry exam, there is just too much for them to think about; one is being trolled, another struggling to keep it together… but as the night unfolds a dark secret that binds them together begins to unravel in a story about identity, friendship and poetry.

Simile is a bold new performance created for young people, by young people- performed by Highly Sprung professionals.

Inspired by the GCSE anthology Worlds and Lives, Simile blends poetry, physical theatre, dance, and spoken word into a powerful, high-energy celebration of growing up.

Co-written by Mark Worth, Highly Sprung, and Birmingham’s poet laureate Jasmine Gardosi, this show dives deep into what it feels like to find your identity in today’s overly complicated world. A world with endless possibilities where you can be whoever you want, like anyone you want.. yet when it comes down to your poetry exam it’s just you and a pen, with just enough ink.

Created in collaboration with The Co-Creatives Group (a team of young writers, producers, directors, and choreographers aged 13-18), Simile explores the excitement, fear, hope, and uncertainty that comes with finding your you.

What’s your story?
