Today we have a guest blog from Eve, a member of the Coventry Young Producers Collective who have programmed and produced this year’s festival Changing Climates.
As you may or may not know, the growing issue of climate change is reaching the point of no return. Ice caps melting, forests burning. In the words of Greta Thunberg, “the house is on fire.” This means quite simply that the world is getting hotter, resulting in rising sea levels, more extreme weather like hurricanes, droughts, and floods, as well as other risks to the global climate, like the irreversible collapsing of ice sheets.
Whilst this is an issue for the politicians and conservationists of the world, there are also simple things we can do to make a difference. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth, or try and reduce your waste. Even something as simple as talking, making conversation, which in turn is raising awareness about this issue and bringing about change.
To take this further you can really do anything – again like Great Thunberg says “no one is too small to make a difference.” With the Coventry Young Producers Collective, Highly Sprung have put together the Changing Climates Festival, taking place on Monday 28th of June to Thursday 1st July to get people like you involved and educated on how we can really bring about change. You could be part of many activities from interactive workshops to talks from professionals both in the climate and also performing fields, all leading towards one goal – a better and more stable climate. You could attend and work towards our goal or even implement someone the things previously mentioned into your everyday life. Trust me when I say it will make the world of difference. Just think you could be the next Greta Thunberg and it could start today.
What you should take away from this blog is that there is no Planet B and we only have about 11 years to reverse the effects of climate change before it is too late. But you are the people to help change that! Think about how you can make a difference.
Thank you for reading this blog 😊
