How do you feel about poetry? Especially the poetry anthology you might be looking at in school?

Are you currently taking GCSE English Literature, or are you just about to start? If you’ve been given the poetry anthology and are feeling a bit confused, bored, or totally put off, then we have a new project that could be perfect for you.

What is Anthology?

Anthology is a new project that will work with the new GCSE Poetry Anthology ‘Worlds and Lives,’ bringing it to life. We’re so excited to be working with Birmingham’s Poet Laureate Jasmine Gardosi and Coventry’s Poet Laureate John Bernard for Anthology. This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss!

We’ll be working with a group of 10 young people (could it be you?!) to co-create a new performance, using your ideas and experiences to help shape the piece. You won’t be performing, but will be joining the creative team. This is an amazing opportunity to work behind the scenes, contributing ideas, attending rehearsals & helping shape the performance.

Who are we looking for?

We’d love to hear from…

  • 10 young people currently taking GCSE English, or just about to start.
  • Young people who are ready to take on a creative challenge, ready to take the driving seat, and interested in trying something new.

What will you be doing?

You’ll join Highly Sprung’s creative team, to create a new professional physical theatre show. You’ll share your ideas and will get your head round what poetry is all about.

Being part of the creative team means you’ll be there from the very beginning of the process. You’ll be contributing and developing ideas for the performance, attending rehearsals and working on it right up until the final sharing of the piece at Warwick Arts Centre.

Taking part means attending sessions outside of school time. There are 5 sessions working with the Highly Sprung team and with 2 brilliant poets – Jasmine Gardosi and John Bernard. You’ll then attend some of our rehearsals for the final performance, and finally the sharing of the piece at Warwick Arts Centre.

When do you need to be available?

Here are some key dates for the project. Sessions will be in-person, and you these are the dates when you must be available to attend:
